How to Set up Custom Robots Header Tags for Blogger

In this tutorial, I’ll guide you on how you can set up Custom Robots Header Tags for search engine visibility.

Is setting up a custom Robots Header Tags for blogger important?
With proper implementation of some of the predefined tags in custom robots header tags, it helps the search robots to recognize our blog update and inform the search engine about the same.

If you want to increase or decrease your blog search visibility, you are at the right place.


Before we go further, I would like you to know the meanings of these tags.

Custom Robots Header Tags and its Meanings
1. all – all tag makes crawlers,  freely crawl, index and expose your blog contents.

2. noindex  – noindex tag prevents search engines from indexing your blog pages. The default tag is index tag which allows search engines to index your pages.

3. nofollow – nofollow tag prevent search bots to look through your links. The default tag is dofollow tag which allows search bots to look through your links.

4. none – none tag combines both the  features of noindex and nofollow tags.

5. noarchive – Search Engines (Google, Bings, Yaho, etc) captures a copy of your site into their server to display in case it goes down. Selecting noarchive tag turns off cached version in search pages.

6. nosnippet – The text snippets in search results help people find what’s on the webpage. If you want to keep the content exclusive, you can turn this header tag on.

7. noodp – noodp tag stands for “No Open Directory Project”. It’s  a man-made directory of websites that it information could be used by Google.

8. notranslate – notranslate tag disables translation on your site.

9. noimageindex – noimageindex tag prevents Google to index your images. If you don’t want people to steal some of your images and use them on their own websites. Simply, deselect it (turn it off).

10. unavailable_after – This tag deindex webpage(s) after a specific time.

How to Setup Custom Robots Header Tags?
As you know, we are talking about setting up robots tags on blogger. Follow the steps given below to proceed with this.
Step 1: Sign in to your blogger.com account. Choose the desired blog you want to modify it robots tags.

Step 2:  Click Settings >> Search preference. There you can see a setting called Custom robots header tags under Crawlers and Indexing. Click the Edit link to the right of it.

Step 3: Here, you will see two radio buttons. Select  the “yes” radio button.

Step 4: At this point, you will get a set of checkboxes. You can set them on your own by reading the “Custom Robots Header Tags and its meanings” Or, just follow the settings I chose from the snapshot (image) below.

Step 5:  Click on the “Save changes” button and you are done.
